week 5 blog 1 part 2: Chapter 11 poem 20, The puppy in the box

Note: the picture is not mine, it was found on the internet.

This poem was inspired by the Puppy Super Bowl (the events in this poem did not actually happen to any of the puppies in the Puppy Super Bowl (that I am aware of). However, these events do happen to some puppies). This is for all the puppies/dogs in need of a home... The picture is not from the Puppy Super Bowl, but im using the photo to write the poem.

The puppy in the box

In the photo, there is a puppy
Sitting in empty box
Watching the people pass by
Looking for one to notice him
Hoping one of them will pick him up
Hoping one will take him home
He whimpers as the night falls
He lies down in the box
Trying to stay warm, trying to fight the cold
He hears a noise and stands on wobbly paws
He looks over the box, to see if anyone is there
“What did I do?” I cry to myself
I lay down and though
Of this past Christmas
I was a gift for a young child
I was ready to enter a new life
I was ready to be a friend
But now I’m right here
That kid did not want me
I was dropped off in this box
On a cold and wet sidewalk
Now I am still here,
I’m hungry, cold, and wet
All I had really wanted this Christmas
Was a child to play with
Some to teach me brand new tricks
Some one to tell me that I’m their friend
Some one to pet and love me
All I had really wanted, was a family
But Im still here, with out a home
Im still here without a family
My eyelids became droopy
I let out a yawn
I closed my eyes and began to dream
To dream of my own family
